Project Name: Leo Carrillo Ranch Park
Project Owner: City of Carlsbad
Project Location: Carlsbad, CA
Year Completed: 2009

Project Description: The original project called for MSC to perform the seismic upgrade and restoration to seven (7) buildings on the property. We have built wood bridges, restored adobe, and renovated the BBQ. The BBQ project was interesting in that the stone structure was stabilized and the steel doors and cooking surfaces were all completely restored. The BBQ is functional and is used for events in the Park.

History: MSC has been working at the Leo Carrillo Ranch dating back to 2002. MSC was the restoration contractor for the original project that developed the Ranch into the public park of today. One of the many interesting buildings MSC restored was DeeDee’s house. DeeDee was the wife of Leo Carrillo and this adobe building was used as her art studio. She had scribed into the exterior plaster various drawings that were preserved and protected in the course of the structural renovation.

Mark Sauer Construction Inc. (MSC) was the historic preservation contractor executing the restoration of the Leo Carrillo Stable and recreation of the Chicken Coop.  MSC team members preformed all the historic restoration for this project.  That included but not limited to, seismic retrofit of the Stable, finish carpentry at the Stable and Chicken Coop, door and window restoration, adobe and plaster repairs, tile and stone restoration.
